Annual Events

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Don a derby and your finest green attire for the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Charlotte Goes Green Festival. Filled with bagpipers, dancers, bands, and vendors with traditional eats, the happenings in Center City serve up a little something Irish for everyone.

Queen’s Cup
Celebrate spring in the Piedmont countryside with the prestigious Queen’s Cup Steeplechase, every last Saturday in April during the Charlotte area’s only horse racing event. Sundress-clad ladies and seersucker-sporting gentlemen can be found enjoying the loads of festivities during the event’s races.

Festival in the Park
Each September, Freedom Park hostsFestival in the Park, bringing together more than 100,000 people to the spirited lanes of one of Charlotte’s most popular green spaces. The arts and crafts event touts more than 150 artists and nearly 1,000 entertainers. There’s also a hodgepodge of food vendors to satisfy even the pickiest eater.

First Night
First Night returns each New Year’s Eve for a family-friendly celebration in Center City. Culture fills the streets throughout the day with musicians, dancers, actors, artists, and more. Suitable for all ages, the festivities culminate with a firework-filled finale at midnight.

Speed Street
Celebrate the May races during the Food Lion Speed Street 600 Festival. Featuring stars, cars, and guitars, the fest transforms the streets of Charlotte into a showcase of motorsports with nonstop entertainment, appearances by top Sprint Cup Drivers, and fun for all ages.

Taste of Charlotte
The Taste of Charlotte food festival draws more than 150,000 people to Center City Charlotte each June to experience a wide array of family activities, live music and fantastic food from the area’s hottest restaurants.

Q-City Charlotte BBQ Championship
Festival attendees get a crash course in BBQ madness as more than 90 teams compete for their piece of the $35,000 prize money and the coveted Governor’s Cup Trophy. 

Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade
This Charlotte tradition that has entertained and inspired audiences since 1947. Complete with dance and choral performances, marching bands from around the region, larger-than-life floats, balloons and some of your favorite characters, this year’s parade will kick off the holiday season, Charlotte-style!

Local Malls

SouthPark Mall – Charlotte’s oldest shopping mall is also one of the region’s largest. Anchored by Nordstrom, Belk, Dillard’s, Macy’s and Neiman Marcus.

Northlake Mall – Just 10 miles north of Uptown, Northlake is a popular destination for those who value style and a big selection. The 150 retailers include H&M.

Carolina Place Mall – This 1.2 million-square-foot mall is located right outside of Charlotte in Pineville, North Caroilna, and is anchored by Sears, Belk, JCPenny, Dillard's and Macy's. 

Phillips Place – This European-style outdoor mall offers high-end boutique apparel and exquisite home furnishings.

Shoppes at University Place  – A tranquil lake setting is the backdrop for the more than 65 clothing, electronic and home retailers that set up shop here. 

Metropolitan – This mixed-use area near Uptown offers condos, dining, chic boutiques and salons along with major retailers such as West Elm, Best Buy, Marshalls and Target. 

StoneCrest at Piper Glen – A variety of appealing retail, dining and movie options in one location draws crowds to this South Charlotte venue. The concert series from late spring to early fall has become a hot ticket for Friday and Saturday night.

Specialty Shops on the Park – Restaurants and exclusive retailers such as Williams-Sonoma and Talbots anchor this open-air mall right across the street from SouthPark Mall.

Blakeney – Specialty shops and retail chain stores fill this upscale shopping center.

Ballantyne Village – Charlotteans and visitors alike flock to this South Charlotte shopping and entertainment venue.
